FRT ROBOTICS unveils 4th generation muscle support wearable robot

FRT ROBOTICS is a company specializing in wearable and rough terrain driving robots, composed of researchers from government-funded research institutes. The 4th generation muscle support wearable robot 'Step up 4th', which they showcased at the World IT Show, is characterized by correcting the wearer's posture and improving fatigue during repetitive work using the 'Passive motion system'. It can also prevent injuries by providing concentrated muscle support to the waist, which is the most stressed when carrying luggage.

In addition, it can monitor the working environment and the worker's status (biosignal) in real time, and it is equipped with safety sensors to detect oxygen saturation, flammable gas, temperature and humidity, and hydrogen sulfide in the workplace. It is also noteworthy that a camera module can be installed to enable video monitoring of the work environment through 5G communication. Through this, it is possible to check risk factors and respond quickly to safety accidents. Each of these functions can be customized according to the work environment. In addition, reinforcement learning algorithms have been applied to predict the user's intentions.

Hyun-cheol Gong, director of FRT ROBOTICS, who met at the scene, emphasized, ""If you use 100 muscle strength when working for 1 hour, you can reduce fatigue or muscle usage by 40% when wearing 'Step up 4th'." It helps to reduce discomfort in the workplace.

"It was registered as an innovative procurement product last year, and it is currently being introduced not only to domestic and foreign large corporate industrial sites but also to government agencies such as the Korea Forest Service. We also received the Good Design Award as a robotic wearable product. It can be applied to all fields such as construction sites, military, firefighting, rescue, logistics, rehabilitation, caregiving, manufacturing, and primary industries.”
