FRT Robotics introduces 4th generation muscle support wearable robot
FRT Robotics is a company specializing in wearable and rough terrain robots comprised of researchers from government-funded institutions. The 4th generation muscle support wearable robot 'Step up 4th', which they introduced at the World IT Show, is characterized by correcting the wearer's posture and improving fatigue during repetitive work using a 'Passive motion system'. In addition, injuries can be prevented by providing strength support focused on the lower back, which bears the greatest burden when carrying luggage.
In addition, the working environment and worker's condition (biological signals) can be monitored in real time, and it is equipped with a safety sensor, enabling oxygen saturation in the workplace, combustible gas recognition, temperature and humidity check, and hydrogen sulfide detection. It is also noteworthy that a camera module can also be installed, enabling video monitoring of the work environment through 5G communication. Through this, it is possible to check risk factors and quickly respond to safety accidents. Each of these functions can be customized to suit the work environment. In addition, a reinforcement learning algorithm is applied to predict the user's intention.
Gong Hyeon-cheol, director of FRT Robotics, whom we met at the site, said, “If you use 100 muscle strength when working for 1 hour, you can reduce fatigue or muscle strength usage by 40% when wearing ‘Step up 4th’.” He added, “The drive system parts are placed behind the waist. “It is designed to reduce inconvenience in the workplace,” he emphasized.
“It was registered as an innovative procurement product last year, and is currently being introduced not only to industrial sites of large corporations at home and abroad, but also to government agencies such as the Korea Forest Service. We also received a Good Design Award for our robot wearable product. “It can be applied to all fields, including construction sites, military, firefighting, rescue, logistics, rehabilitation, nursing, manufacturing, and primary industries.”
